Research on Computer Vision

I start to make a research on Computer Vision to understand how can I make the world of dance interact with the digital world.

Computer Vision is a field that deals with how computers read images and video and make an outcome out of that. This because computers have not the same way of looking at things like humans do. Through a camera, the computer can easily record a video, but make it understand what he is recording is a completely different task.

Processing 3

I used Processing 3 to start to explore this field.

The first thing I created is an output that draws a black like only on objects that are actively moving in the camera.

By moving my head around, the computer was drawing lines only through the shape of my face. In this way, I created a drawn style image of me.

This is quite interesting because I can create different video effects just by making someone move in front of the camera. This can be easily applied to my dance project.

Apparition – Klaus Obermaier & Ars Electronica Futurelab

In “Apparition”, Klaus Obermaier was doing something similar by covering the entire body of the dancer with a projection. In this was the spectator was watching a projection dancing, not the dancer himself.

I am sure that keeping experimenting with this technology I can create something interesting for my project.
